 Winter is here, and with that brings holiday cheer! To get you in the Christmas spirit, we have made a list of some of Edmonton’s best things to do this holiday season. From holiday lights to winter events, Edmonton has plenty of activities for you and your family to enjoy this season.

Here are some of the best things to do in Edmonton this holiday season:

Alberta Legislature Lights

The Alberta Legislature building gets beautifully decorated during the holiday season for Christmas. Stroll through the glistening lights, get Pinterest-worthy pictures & catch live performances by locals! You can even lace up your skates and enjoy the outdoor rink, or grab a bite close by at some of downtown’s best restaurants & cafes.

Glow Christmas Festival

If you want to enjoy holiday lights without freezing your butt off, then the Glow Christmas Festival is for you. Surround yourself with twinkling lights and illuminated decorations from classic fairytales for a magical night out with your family & friends. From LED swings to entertainment and special events, the Glow Christmas Festival has it all.

WHEN:  December 1 to January 1, 2023

WHERE: Edmonton Expo Centre

Candy Cane Lane

For more than 50 years, Candy Cane Lane has been an Edmonton tradition loved by many. Brought together by volunteers, the Crestwood community neighborhood decorates the exterior of their homes in celebration of the holiday season.

Food donation bins are also set up throughout the displays to donate food in support of Edmonton’s Food Bank

Edmonton Christmas Market

Edmonton’s Christmas Market offers something for everyone! The market has over 100 vendors with unique items such as apparel,  lifestyle & home goods, jewelry, crafts & games, and much more. In addition to these vendors, there are also light displays, tasty food & drinks,  live performances, festive live theatre, and family-friendly workshops.

WHEN: November 30th to December 18th

WHERE: Fort Edmonton Park

The Magic Of Lights

The Canadian Tire Magic of Lights features over a MILLION twinkling lights spanning along a 2.5-kilometer magical route. This “drive-through” experience is enjoyed from the comfort of your car, making it the perfect activity on chilly winter nights. Most known for its 200 ft tunnel of lights,  Magic of Lights also features displays from all your favorite holiday movies and characters like 12 Days of Christmas, Winter Wonderland, Big Foot Monster Trucks, & Prehistoric Christmas. The BRAND NEW Barbie holiday light display and the “Oh, Canada” tribute tunnel will be premiering this year as well!

WHERE: RAD Torque Raceway

A Christmas Carol

Enjoy a fun night out at the Citadel Theatre to watch one of the most famous plays of all time, A Christmas Carol! Filled with Christmas songs and characters, this live performance will get you right into the holiday spirit as you watch Scrooge change his old ways under the guidance of the Ghosts of Christmas past.

WHEN: November 26 – December 23, 2022

WHERE: The Citadel Theatre
